Top Reasons for Purchase

Travelers may often worry about...

Cancellation

If forced to cancel their trip, travelers may want reimbursement for their pre-paid, non-refundable costs.

Medical Coverage

Especially when going abroad, travelers may become concerned about potential medical expenses.

Personal Belongings

Many travelers have concerns about loss or theft of their baggage and important items, like a passport.

Things You May Want to Keep in Mind

Health Insurance

Your ordinary insurance plans may not offer coverage abroad, or they may have lower limits.

Medicare

In most situations, Medicare may not offer medical coverage outside of the U.S.

Credit Cards

Credit cards may have some travel coverage built in, but some may not provide as many benefits as those provided by a third-party provider.

Cruise Lines

Cruise lines may offer their own protection plans, but you can help protect your cruise with a plan from a third-party provider that may be more extensive.

A third-party travel protection plan may offer more extensive coverage.

"What If" Scenarios to Consider

Would you be able to handle these situations without the help of travel protection?

Car Accident

You are involved in a car accident

Injury or Illness

You injure yourself before or during the trip

Lost Baggage

You lose your baggage during the trip

Flight Delay

Your flight is delayed for several hours and you need a hotel for the night

Missed Connection

You have to cancel your cruise, or are delayed and miss your connection

Natural Disaster

A natural disaster impacts your travel plans

Are you prepared to pay for medical expenses if you have an accidental injury on your trip, or for medical evacuation from a foreign country?

See the Difference Protection Makes

A real-world scenario showing why travel protection matters

Marvin and Mark are 30-year-old twin brothers going on a 7-day cruise. Unfortunately, their trip was not all fun and games.

Marvin

Wants to protect his cruise trip with travel protection.

Trip Cost: $2,000
Travel Protection: $77
$2,077

Mark

Doesn't think he'll need to use travel protection.

Trip Cost: $2,000
Travel Protection: $0
$2,000

Trip Delay

The cruise ship was delayed until the next day. The brothers had to get a hotel, purchase three meals, and take a cab to the cruise port. The cost for hotel, meals, and transportation was $150 for each of them.

-$0
Marvin was reimbursed with travel insurance for the $150.
-$150
No travel coverage, no reimbursement.

Stomach Bug

On the day of an excursion, Marvin and Mark came down with a stomach bug. They saw a doctor and got medication, for a total bill of $200 each.

-$0
Marvin was reimbursed with travel insurance for the $200 doctor bill.
-$200
No travel coverage, no reimbursement.

Missed Excursion

Because Marvin and Mark were too ill to do much of anything that day, they had to miss their excursion, which each of them had already paid $100 for.

+$100
Marvin was reimbursed with travel insurance for the missed excursion.
+$0
Because Mark had no travel coverage, he couldn't get his lost excursion money back.

Marvin's Final Trip Total

$1,977

Mark's Final Trip Total

$2,350

The Dos and Don'ts

Be upfront about pre-existing conditions

Compare plans to get the coverage you need most

Read through the plan or terms and conditions to understand your coverage

Pick the cheapest plan only because of the price

Give inaccurate details when purchasing a plan

Avoid travel protection just because it's an additional cost

Is It Cost Effective?

Look at your travel protection quote differently to make more sense of it.

Find the Cost Per Day

  1. Get your quote
  2. Divide it by the number of days you'll be traveling
  3. Now you have the cost per day of trip coverage

Trip Cost: $3,000

Trip Length: 10 days

Plan Cost: $144

$144 ÷ 10

= $14 per day for trip coverage

Find the Percentage

  1. Get your quote
  2. Divide it by your total insured trip cost
  3. Now you know what percentage travel protection is for the total insured trip cost

Trip Cost: $3,000

Trip Length: 10 days

Plan Cost: $144

$144 ÷ $3,000

= 4.8% of your trip cost

Understanding Pre-Existing Conditions

Travel Insured's travel protection plans can provide benefits even if your loss is caused by a pre-existing condition.

Travel Insured defines a Pre-Existing Condition as an illness, disease, or other condition to any of the following during the "look back" period:

  • You or your traveling companion
  • Your family member
  • Your business partner

See the Plan Document for the complete definition.

Travel Insured plans contain a Pre-Existing Conditions Exclusion which may have an impact on insurance coverage.

Refer to the Plan Document for the complete Pre-Existing Condition Exclusion.

The "look back" period is the time frame prior to the date your coverage is effective. If a pre-existing condition occurs within the "look back" period, it is excluded from your coverage unless you qualify for the Waiver of the Pre-Existing Condition Exclusion.

The exact "look back" period varies by plan.

In many Travel Insured plans, the Pre-Existing Condition Exclusion can be waived if:

  • The plan is purchased within the specific time frame specified in your Plan Document
  • You are not disabled from travel at the time you pay for the plan
